Who were the Celts?
Celtic Background
Celts were very interesting people. They were Indo-European people that had an uproar in the 12th century and are ancestors to all modern Europeans. They were considered barbarians due to their unimpressive outward appearances and lack of knowledge. But, they weren't actually dumb as you may hear. They were really a very intelligent kind that happened to make a functioning society and their own religion. They also even stood up to the Roman Empire, the most powerful people of their time.

They had druids who acted like priest in the Celtic age. The druids were considered as "The Teachers of Wisdom". They taught the Celtic people about the gods and how the forest had many ancient spirits. They also taught the people that the Celtic people that sacrifice was need to appease the gods.

STONEHENGE
One of the amazing attractions that was tied to Gaelic culture is called the Stonehenge, which is located in England in the UK. The Stonehenge was considered to be built by magical high druids using their powers. BULLFEAST
The choosing of a Celtic king was a bit "strange". They choose a king on the day of the Bull Feast. They would kill a bull and make a random man eat the bull's intestine and drink the bull's blood. The druids would then put the select man to sleep to dream. Once the man wakes up, he is to tell about what he dreamed of and who the right king should've been. This was to gain the approval of the gods. PUNISHMENT
There were very harsh punishments when it came to the Celtic religion. If one were to disobey the druids teachings, they would be shunned from the whole village that they lived in. They would also be banned from watching all sacrifices and banned from going to festivals, even sacred ones. They would likely be burned in a wickerwork, like the one you see next to the text. |
